IYS YATRA 2017 : 21-25 JANUARY : UDUPI (KARNATAKA)

WHAT IS AN IYS YATRA?

The IYS yatra is a spiritual retreat to different holy places in India like Vrindavan, Mayapur, Ujjain, Chitrakoot, Ahobilam, Dwarka, Jagannath Puri etc. to provide the participants a first-hand experience of its rich cultural heritage.

Such trips give an amazing boost to the participants’ spiritual dimension, along with an opportunity to bathe in the wondrous association of devotees and the merciful darshans of the deities in the holy dham.

ABOUT UDUPI

The holy town of Udupi lies on the Arabian Sea in the South Indian state of Karnataka. The town is famous as a place of pilgrimage because of the temple Sri Krishna Matha. This temple was founded by Srila Madhvacharya (A.D. 1238–1317), one of the greatest saints, philosophers, and religious reformers of India. The Supreme Personality of Godhead came and stayed there in response to the desire of His pure devotee Srila Madhvacharya. The unique feature of Sri Krishna Matha temple is that the darshan of the Lord is only through a window with nine holes called the Navagraha Kindi. The window is exquisitely carved and silver – plated.

Even before Madhva's time, Udupi was renowned as a holy place. People throughout South India frequently went there on pilgrimage because it was a center of Vedic scholarship and the site of two ancient temples, Sri Ananteshvara and Sri Candramauleshvara.

As an annual regular feature of ISKCON Youth Services, the next IYS yatra will be going to Sri Udupi Dham. More than 700 boys are expected to benefit from this unique opportunity & get innumerable unforgettable experiences of the beautiful dham. We invite you to join in too...
